Silver Jewelry Caring Tips

I love Silver Jewelry. Silver is one of the precious metals with very ductile and malleable. Therefore, Silver can be used solely or with other materials for jewelry design. I collected lots of Silver Jewelry. My collections are excellent when I bought them but after some times, they became darkened, lost their shinning property and changed their appearance. The tarnishing process is annoying. I really don’t want to wear them any more before I clean them up.

I tried to use the cleansing solution and found the jewelry returned to their new look quickly. However, after few days, my Silver Jewelry turned even darker. I tried many different ways but with very short effect. Finally, I found that to protect my Silver Jewelry is better than clean them up. I just use air tight zip plastic bags to store them and their beautiful appearance kept much longer. For those darkened one, I bought some soft polish cloth without any chemical to clean them. I polish them carefully with patience and time and the result is promising with their shinning property last longer.

The Content of common silver jewelry

1. 999 silver
It contains 99.9% of silver. It is white color and very soft. Usually the jewelry is produced from simple technique. Not suitable for stone setting jewelry. The hallmark is “999”.

2. 925 silver
It is the mixture of 92.5% of silver and 7.5% of copper (or other metal). It is also named as Sterling silver. The hallmark is “925”.

3. Thai silver
925 sterling silver with process of oxidizing to make antiqued silver appearance. It is a specialty of Thailand.

4. Tibet silver
Alloy mixed with nickel and copper. It is produced at Tibet and Nepal. Although it is named as silver, it does not contains any silver .
